Cirque Du Soleil Debuting 'Ovo' In Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Cirque du Soleil will be performing in Lake Charles for the first time ever in April with "OVO," its newest touring show. The production will be presented at the Lake Charles Civic Center from April 8-10 for three performances only. It's part of a global tour of North America.
Cast and crew are assembling and rehearsing for OVO in Lake Charles. The premiere performance will be seen at The Civic Center.
OVO, meaning "egg" in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight, and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement, according to a Cirque du Soleil news release. When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about the iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives, the release stated.
The cast of OVO comprises 50 artists from 12 countries specializing in many acrobatic acts. One highlight of OVO is the Flying Act in which a group of scarabs soar high above the stage from both the edges to the middle, landing on a platform.
"I think it's significant that we take some pride in the ability of The Civic Center to attract world class talent to the Lake Charles area, not only for the show itself, but also as a training complex for this type of production over other venues in the state and region," said Lake Charles Mayor, Randy Roach, at a news conference Thursday.
"I think it speaks to the vitality and the importance of this area both in terms of tourism and in the performing arts as well," he added.
Showtimes are as follows: Friday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m. Advance tickets for OVO are now available online and exclusively to Cirque Club members. Tickets for the general public are on sale here.
