NOVAC is offering paid on-set internships on high profile production filming in New Orleans. Applications are open for 15 production assistant paid internships on the set of THE FIRST, filming in Chalmette. Applications will be accepted through January 19, and the internship will start in early February 2018.
New Orleans, Louisiana - NOVAC is proud to announce an exciting internship program with the new Hulu/Channel 4 production THE FIRST, a drama series from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon. Through a partnership with NOVAC, THE FIRST, filming in Chalmette, LA seeks applications for paid community-based Production Assistants in 15 departments.
NOVAC, the New Orleans Video Access Center, has been a key resource in training Louisiana residents for jobs in the film and television industry since 2007. Annually, in the greater New Orleans and greater Baton Rouge areas, NOVAC provides training and informational workshops for people interested in building careers in production, and partners with city governments, local production unions and incoming productions to offer opportunities on set. Based on successful internship programs on the sets of HBO’s
Treme and Cinemax’s Quarry, NOVAC has become an industry-leading consultant on community based training and hiring programs for Hollywood productions, and currently coordinates community based production learning opportunities nationwide, for HBO and Warner Bros. Television. NOVAC is bringing this experience to the on-set internship on THE FIRST.

● A three-week paid internship on the set of THE FIRST, working as a production assistant in specific departments, beginning in early February, 2018
● Participating departments include: Camera, Art Department, Set Dressing, Production Office, Accounting, Locations, Assistant Directors, Scripty/Video, Hair/Makeup, Costumes, Scenic, Electric, Grips, Props, and Sound
● Previous experience is not required, but please list any department-relevant experience in your resume and cover letter.
● Successful candidates will be able to provide their own transportation to and from set, have a smart phone to communicate with their department heads, and must be a Louisiana resident.
The internship program on THE FIRST is NOVAC’s third internship partnership with local producer Joe Incaprera, who has made community-based opportunities a key part of his major television productions in Louisiana. Incaprera, who was a producer on shows including the New Orleans-shot Tremé and American Horror Story : Coven, as well as most recently on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, explains why this kind of community engagement is part of his model: “I love living and working in New Orleans, and when we bring high-impact television shows here, I want to ensure that the creative and economic career opportunities that the film industry offers are available to everyone who has the interest and the drive to be part of the industry.” NOVAC Executive Director Darcy McKinnon feels that this program is a key part of the film industry’s long term sustainability: “We are thrilled to be partnering with locally shot productions to provide
high wage, low barrier to entry job opportunities for local residents.”
THE FIRST stars two time academy award winning actor Sean Penn and centers around the first manned mission to Mars. The story follows the astronauts, their families, and the ground team on Earth as they navigate the challenges of interplanetary colonization.
