NEW ORLEANS VIDEO ACCESS CENTER PRESENTS THE MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION PROJECT IN NEW ORLEANS AND BATON ROUGE, BEGINNING JANUARY 30

In partnership with the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation, WWOZ and the Arts Council of Baton Rouge, NOVAC seeks local bands and local aspiring filmmakers to participate in a unique multi-discipline cultural program.
NEW ORLEANS & BATON ROUGE - The New Orleans Video Access Center is pleased to announce year two of the Music Video Production Project, a learning workshop and creative collaboration designed to produce high-quality music video content for local bands, teaching basic filmmaking skills in the process. The program, launched in 2015 in New Orleans in partnership with the Jazz and Heritage Foundation and WWOZ, will be expanding its reach this year to students and bands in Baton Rouge, thanks to support from the Arts Council of Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation.
In both cities, beginning with an introductory meeting this Saturday, January 30, aspiring filmmakers with any amount of experience can sign up to participate in the workshop, which will take place over multiple dates February – April, coordinated with participants. For a low price of $150 (or $100 for existing NOVAC members), students will learn the basics of music video production, including design, storyboarding, production, post-production, effects and more, through the hands-on process of creating a music video for a local band, under the guidance of an experienced local filmmaker. The project’s first meeting will be January 30 in both cities, but signups will be available until February 15, 2016.
Bands interested in getting free, high-quality music video content are encouraged to submit a song or album for consideration at novacvideo.org/New-Orleans/filmmaker-workshops/mvpp2016.html. Bands will be invited to meet with the small group of students and their mentor filmmaker to help design and produce their music video, so that they receive the image and content that best works for their band and brand. NOVAC’s featured bands this year are New Orleans’ TANK AND THE BANGAS and Baton Rouge’s THE CHAMBERS, with additional artists to be added and announced via NOVAC social media (facebook.com/novac).
The music videos will be produced over three months, February – April 2016, and will premiere in New Orleans at Sync Up Cinema 2016, the free film & music industry conference and showcase during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (jazzandheritage.org/sync-up), as well as at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival 2016. Bands will then be able to use their music videos for marketing, audience building and to secure bookings.
